Type of Roofing Installation

When it comes to roofing there are two different types of roofing that are installed on homes. One is metal roofing but the other is installed on many more homes. It’s called asphalt shingle roofing and it’s a major type of roofing that is installed in Gregory Michigan. The options that we’ve included below are mainly for asphalt shingle roofing although they may apply to metal roofing as well. The two different types of methods for installing a new roof is called re-roofing and tear off roofing. There are advantages and disadvantages of both these types of roofing installation which we’ll dig deeper into below:

Re-roofing a home is one of the fastest ways to install a new roof. When a home is re-roofed the old roofing materials are not removed but left in place. Even for older roofing materials that may be failing they are still left in place. A new roof layer is then placed on top of the older existing roof. This eliminates the labor involved in removing the roof and also removes any debris removal costs. Re-roofing a home is the cheapest way to have a new roof installed. However, due to the fact that the old roof is left in place there could be problems that are not noticed when getting the new roof meaning they will resurface sooner. Plus, only 2 layers of shingles are allowed so if your home has already been re-roofed it can’t be re-roofed a third time.

Tear Off Roofing

The best way to have a new roof installed is by installing the new roof on normal roof decking. When you have a new roof installed you can opt for tear off roofing. This is when the old roofing materials are removed and the roof decking is exposed. The advantages of this type of roofing is that it exposes the entire roof and if there are any problems it can be addressed quickly and easily. Tear off roofing is more costly than re-roofing but will give you a better end result to your new roof. Tear off roofing will also be more labor intensive and may require an additional day to install the new roof.
